I would gratefully thank you for your visiting my homepage.
Meeting people, meeting you, is very precious to me.
Now let me introduce myself :
My name is Yoko, I'm Japanese. I was born and I grew up in Yokohama.
I produce HANKO
What is HANKO ?
It's a small stamp people use as an official signature in Japan.
As you can have different situations in everyday life,
more or less formal, administrative or personal, people generally have a few different HANKO.
The HANKO I carve can be used for official matters, but they should mean much more to the owner !
When I draw and carve stamps I love to burn some incense sticks while listening to some classical,
jazz or relaxing music.
I also have a great time finding and producing fabrics or lamps, for example.
I love antiques, like this very old heater which belonged to my father.
It was found back in the garret, it's a very simple heater,
a little bit like an alcohol-lamp, giving a gentle warmness.
I also love the loudspeakers that I built within calabashes. They produce a cheap and retro sound.
When I receive an order, I ask for a few informations about the intended owners,
to help me get closer to their personality and adapt the work to it.
I carve personally by hand and with my heart every HANKO.
So, when I do, I imagine the smile of the intended owner of the HANKO.
I got involved producing HANKO after I offered the first one to a friend of mine.
Then I produced a lot of those stamps for my sister's wedding's Hikidemono
(wedding presents that the bride and the bridegroom offer to their guests to thank them
for their support, as newly-married people do in Japan.)
I had known for a long time that it's a great delight to receive a personal HANKO.
I clearely remember my ravishement when my uncle offered me an original stamp
where I could read my name carved.
Now I would like to share this emotion with you.
Since I've started this activity I've met people and I've received good energy.
I'd like to give it back, now...
I feel very touched when I think of the people stamping my little piece of work
somewhere on this planet, and when I receive messages from friendly customers.
I gratefully thank them for all their letters and gifts !
I hope the next HANKO that chance will induce me to do will be yours !
